STEAM Challenge

Today's challenge was to build the highest tower using plasticine and sticks.

The challenge proved to be quite tricky but we were very impressed with everybody's commitment, perseverance, and willingness to try new ideas.

The winning team today was Sophie, Michaela and Jack S.
Well done !!

Scripture Reading- Change of date

The Eisteddfod Assembly is now Monday afternoon of Week 10 in the church.

Scripture Reading Challenge 2019

  • Your scripture reading can be anything you like, eg. a parable, a psalm, a reading from the Gospels.

  • Introduction: Years 4/5: 15-20 seconds. This is a time to use the main ideas or theme of your scripture reading to make up a small speech explaining what the reading means to you, without retelling the reading – ie. ‘What the story of the Last Supper tells/demonstrates/means to me is ...... ‘

  • The Reading:  for Year 4/5  should be 1 – 2 minutes long, it will just be some verses of the Scripture.

  • Format for scripture reading on the day: Students will start with their introduction, then  say “This is a reading from eg. Matthew Chapter3, Verses 1 -14 ...” then start the reading. At the end, if it is a gospel reading only say, “The Gospel of the Lord” otherwise they say “The Word of the Lord”.

  • Timetable: Monday  1st or Tuesday  2nd April, class Eisteddfods will be heard,
-       Eisteddfod Assembly will be on Monday 8th April in the church, names will be put on Facebook and the classroom blog.

  • For students to remember:
-       When reading from the Bible you do not have to look up at your audience all the time
-       Use good expression when you read.
-       Do not read too fast.
-       Pause correctly.
-       You do not have to learn you reading off by heart but you should learn your introduction.
-       Make sure your words and voice are very clear, so that your audience understands.

Twitter Chapter Chat

Last week we finished reading The Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverley Cleary. We learned to tweet and share our work with the other schools that we follow.

Today we started reading The Twits by Roald Dahl. We really enjoyed the first few chapters today, they are so funny.

Writing Poetry

We had a wonderful day last week writing our poems. Today they are heading away to a school in Tokoroa, and we will receive theirs in the next few days.

Tonight there are 3000 courier bags of writing goodness sitting in school offices across New Zealand. Tomorrow NZ Post Couriers will collect and transfer these precious packages around the country.
96,000 students have carefully crafted individual poems and packaged them up for their buddy classes.
3000 teachers have encouraged, enthused, promoted and scaffolded to help us achieve this epic writing goal.
It's a wonderful project and impossible to pull off without the generous support of Warehouse Stationery who truly have 'got NZ writing'.#getnzwriting #writeyourownstory
